कहा जाता है की तुलसी में भगवान का वास होता है, इसलिए इसे घर के आँगन में लगाया जाता है।  इसमें वातावरण की नकारात्मक ऊर्जा को खत्म करने की क्षमता होती है।  हिंदुओं (Tulsi Plant) में तुलसी के पौंधे का बड़ा महत्त्व है।   इसे बड़ा ही पवित्र और शुद्ध माना जाता है।   हिंदू घरों में तुलसी का  पौधा जरूर होता है। तुलसी के पौधे को सुबह और शाम के समय पूरे श्रद्धा के साथ पूजा जाता है। सदियों से घरों के आंगन में तुलसी के पौधे (Tulsi Plant) को लगाया जाता है और घर पर हर तरह के छोटे-बड़े धार्मिक आयोजनों में विशेष तौर पर पूजा होती है। धार्मिक महत्व के अलावा आयुर्वेद और विज्ञान में भी तुलसी के पौधे का बहुत महत्व माना गया है।

• तुलसी के बारे में हिंदू मान्यताओं में बताया गया है कि हर घर के बाहर तुलसी का पौधा होना अनिवार्य है। इतना ही नहीं, बल्कि जो व्यक्ति प्रतिदिन तुलसी का सेवन करता है, उसका शरीर अनेक व्रतों के फल के समान पवित्रता प्राप्त कर लेता है।

• जल में तुलसीदल (पत्ते) डालकर स्नान करना तीर्थों में स्नान कर पवित्र होने जैसा है और जो व्यक्ति ऐसा करता है वह सभी यज्ञों में बैठने का अधिकारी होता है। इतना ही नहीं यह वास्तु दोष भी दूर करने में सक्षम है।

• प्रतिदिन तुलसी का पूजन करना और पौधे में जल अर्पित करना हमारी प्राचीन परंपरा है। जिस घर में प्रतिदिन तुलसी की पूजा होती है, वहां सुख-समृद्धि, सौभाग्य बना रहता है। धन की कभी कोई कमी महसूस नहीं होती। अत: हमें विशेष तौर पर प्रतिदिन तुलसी का पूजन अवश्य करना चाहिए।

• घर के आंगन में तुलसी का पौधा हो तो घर का कलह और अशांति दूर होती है। घर-परिवार पर मां लक्ष्मी जी की विशेष कृपा बनी रहती है। इतना ही नहीं प्रतिदिन दही के साथ चीनी और तुलसी के पत्तों का सेवन करना बहुत शुभ माना जाता है।

• पौराणिक शास्त्रों के अनुसार तुलसी के पत्तों के सेवन से भी देवी-देवताओं की विशेष कृपा प्राप्त होती है। दही या दूध के साथ तुलसी का सेवन करने से कई प्रकार के आयुर्वेदिक लाभ भी प्राप्त होते हैं। जैसे- दिनभर कार्य में मन लगा रहता है, मानसिक तनाव नहीं रहता, शरीर हमेशा ऊर्जावान बना रहता है।

धार्मिक महत्व

हिंदू धर्म के अनेक ग्रंथों और पुराणों में तुलसी के पौधे का महत्व बताया गया है। भगवान विष्णु और श्रीकृष्ण की कोई भी पूजा तुलसी दल के बिना पूरी नहीं मानी जाती है। वहीं हनुमान जी को भी भोग में तुलसी दल बहुत ही प्रिय होती है। पुराणों के अनुसार घर के आंगन में तुलसी का पौधा लगाने से और उसकी देखभाल करने से व्यक्ति के पूर्व जन्म के पाप नष्ट हो जाते हैं। पुराणों में बताया गया है मृत्यु के समय गंगाजल संग तुलसी के पत्ते लेने से आत्मा को शान्ति और स्वर्ग की प्राप्ति होती है। माना जाता है कि जिन घरों में रोजाना तुलसी की पूजा होती है वहां कभी यमदूत प्रवेश नहीं करते। इसके साथ ही घर की सुख-समृद्धि बनी रहती है।

वैज्ञानिक महत्व

तुलसी के पत्तो के अंदर रोग प्रतिरोधक क्षमता होती है।  तुलसी का सेवन करने से यह क्षमता आपमें भी मजबूत हो जाती है।  नियमित रूप से तुलसी का सेवन करने से सर्दी, जुकाम और फ्लू जैसी छोटी छोटी बीमारियाँ ठीक हो जाती है।  एक रिसर्च के मुताबिक तुलसी के पत्तो में कैंसर जैसी बड़ी बड़ी बीमारियों को ठीक करने  के भी गुण है।  वही बताया गया है की तुलसी के पत्तो और बीज का  सेवन करने से नपुंसकता भी खत्म हो जाती है।  तुलसी के नियमित सेवन से शरीर में ऊर्जा का प्रवाह नियंत्रित होता है और व्यक्ति की उम्र बढ़ती है। तुलसी के पौधे में एंटीबैक्टीरियल, एंटीफंगल व एंटीबायोटिक गुण होते हैं जो संक्रमण से लड़ने में शरीर को सक्षम बनाते हैं। संक्रामक रोगों से निपटने के लिए तुलसी कारगर है।

तुलसी और वास्तु शास्त्र

मान्यता है जिन घरों में तुलसी का पौधा लगा हुआ होता है वहां पर वास्तु संबंधी दोष नहीं होता है। तुलसी के पौधे को घर के उत्तर- पूर्व कोने में लगाना शुभ माना जाता है।
