पुराणों के अनुसार मंदिर में घंटी बजाने से मानव के कई जन्मों के पाप तक नष्ट हो जाते हैं. जब सृष्टि का प्रारंभ हुआ तब जो नाद (आवाज) गूंजी थी, वही आवाज घंटी बजाने पर भी आती है। उल्लेखनीय है कि यही नाद ओंकार के उच्चारण से भी जागृत होता है। मंदिर के बाहर लगी घंटी या घंटे को काल का प्रतीक भी माना गया है। कहीं-कहीं यह भी लिखित है कि जब प्रलय आएगा उस समय भी ऐसा ही नाद गूंजेगा। कहते हैं कि जिन जगहों पर घंटी बजने की आवाज नियमित आती है, वहां का वातावरण हमेशा शुद्ध और पवित्र बना रहता है। यह भी माना जाता है कि घंटी बजाने से नकारात्मक शक्तियां हटती हैं, जिससे लोगों के समृद्धि के द्वार खुल जाते हैं और घंटी की आवाज़ हर प्रकार के वास्तु दोष को भी खत्म करती है।
मंदिर में घंटी लगाए जाने के पीछे ना सिर्फ धार्मिक कारण है बल्कि वैज्ञानिक कारण भी हैं। वैज्ञानिकों का कहना है कि जब घंटी बजाई जाती है तो वातावरण में कंपन पैदा होता है, जो वायुमंडल के कारण काफी दूर तक जाता है। इस कंपन का फायदा यह है कि इसके क्षेत्र में आने वाले सभी जीवाणु, विषाणु और सूक्ष्म जीव आदि नष्ट हो जाते हैं, जिससे आसपास का वातावरण शुद्ध हो जाता है।
इसीलिए अगर आप मंदिर जाते समय घंटी बजाने को अहमियत नहीं देते हैं तो अगली बार प्रवेश करने से पहले घंटी बजाना ना भूलें.
